Okonomiyaki (what you like fried) is classic street food from Japan, I’m not saying this is the most traditional way to make Okonomiyaki but it’s my way…
- 4 Green Cabbage Leaves (I used Sweetheart)
- Half a cup Flour
- 1 egg
- Milk
- Garlic powder
- For the sauce
- 2 tbsp Ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 tsp Honey
- Mayonnaise
Start off by shredding the cabbage leaves. Put them to one side and make a light pancake batter with the milk, garlic, flour and egg. Add the milk until it resembles light cream in consistency. Add the cabbage too it and give it all a good stir. Heat a large frying pan with a little oil and put some of the cabbage mix into the pan, make sure its thin and covers the whole pan.
Cook the cabbage pancake for 2 minutes on a low heat, covered. Once done, flip and cook the other side, while the pancake finishes off, mix together the sauce ingredients. Remove the pancake from the heat and top with the sauce mixture followed by a liberal amount of mayo. Put on a plate and enjoy!
