Portly Cooks | Balik Ekmek

Balik Ekmek, fish bread is a fantastic street food from the foodie metropolis that is Istanbul in Turkey. Its typically made with mackerel so that’s what I’ve used here.

  • Fresh Mackerel Fillets
  • Sub Roll
  • Salad of your choice
  • Mayonnaise

Start off by toasting the buns and then leave those to one side. in a heavy bottomed pan fry the mackerel in a little oil until crispy on both sides. This should be about 4 minutes on one side and 2 on the other, but use your judgement.  When the mackerel is nearly done spread the mayo on the bread, add the salad and then top with the mackerel. It’s as simple as that!
