Pide is a meaty flat bread from the street of Turkey, if you’ve never had it I think you’ll love this. You can pick them up pretty much anywhere in Istanbul, but for now, here is one you can make at home.
For the base
- 125g Strong Bread Flour
- 70ml Warm Water
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
- ½ tsp Dried Yeast
Topping
- 200g Beef Mince
- 1 tsp Cumin
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp All Purpose Seasoning
- 1 Red Onion (Diced)
The dough is the part that’s going to take the time here, mix all the ingredients in a bowl until they form a dough. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes then leave to prove in an oiled, covered bowl for around an hour to an hour and a half. While the dough proves mixed the topping ingredients together and leave to one side. Once the dough has proved cut in half and roll out each half. Form into a kind of oval shape and then using a fork add the topping to each. Brush the crusts with a beaten egg of some milk and then bake In the oven for 20 minutes at 180c.
