Portly Cooks | Cinnamon Rolls

cinnamon rolls

Cinnamon rolls what is not to love about shoving one these fabulous little cakes in your face and indulging! This is the first time I’ve made Cinnamon Rolls and so need a little help and these are based on this recipe from Ambitious Kitchen with a few changes.

  • ¾ Warm Milk
  • 1 Sachet Dried Yeast
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • ¼ cup Caster Sugar
  • ¼ cup Melted Butter
  • 3 cups Self Raising Flour

Zap the milk in the microwave until luke-warm, I don’t know the exact temperature but as long as it is warm to the touch. Add the yeast and sugar and stir. Next add the butter and egg, give it a brief mix and then add the flour and mix to form a dough.

Knead for two or three minutes, and then leave the dough to prove in an oiled, covered bowl for an hour in a warm place. Once proved, take out and roll out into a rectangle.

  • 2 tbsp Cinnamon Powder
  • 2 tbsp Caster Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Butter (Melted)

Once the dough is rolled out brush one side with butter and then sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mix evenly over the top.  Roll the dough into a swiss roll kind of shape and cut into even rounds.  Finally put in a baking tin and bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 180c.  Once baked, leave to cool and top with icing sugar.
