Beans on toast is one of those little indulgences that just makes you feel like a kid again… Even better if there are little sausages in the beans too! This one is a slightly more grown up version of this seemingly British obsession of putting beans on toast.
- 3 Sausages
- A thumb sized piece of Chorizo
- 3 Rashers of Bacon
- 2 Field Mushrooms
- 1 can Heinz Beans
- 25ml Port
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
- 1 tsp Mixed Herbs
- 2 tbsp Ketchup
- 2 Slices White Bread
Heat a large pan or wok and in a little oil fry the chorizo on a low heat, this should allow all the lovely oils and flavour to come out of the chorizo. Next whack the heat up and add the bacon and mushrooms, cook for about 2 minutes.
Add the beans, garlic, paprika, herbs, ketchup and port. Give it all a good stir and simmer for 10 minutes. Once that is done, put the sausages in the slow cooker and then top with the beans. Leave in the slow cooker on low for at least 5 hours. I left mine for 12.
When you get back from your day and the beans and sausages are ready to roll. Cut the crusts off the 2 slices of bread, cut them into triangles and then fry on either side until golden and crispy. Serve these with the sausages and beans.
