Last week I was very kindly invited to the menu launch at Co Fifteen in Cherry Hinton. We were treated to some fabulous creations from Chef Emma (@compassionatekiwi).
I’m not vegan or even vegetarian myself but I am always curious about what can be done with a purely plant based menu. The range of different things and depth of flavour was absolutely fantastic!
We tried; A sharing Platter with life changing loaf, which was awesome, Butternut Squash Soup Shot with house made Coconut Yoghurt and Tempeh ‘Bacon’, Leek and Onion Tart, House made Kimchi and Black Bean Slider, Arrancini Risotto Ball filled with Tapioca’Cheese’, Deep Fried Avocado Taco and a stunningly gooey and moreish Chocolate Torte.
The food was all fantastic, I even liked the deep fried avocado taco! It was all prepared with precision and care, food at Co is produced to order every single day, which I think is how food should be made. Who wants something thats been sitting under lights for an hour? Whilst stuffing our faces with delicious morsels, we were told the inpsiration behind Emmas food and why she cooks what she does.
I love Co its light and airy and everyone is lovely, I’ve been for brunch before and will definitely be back in the near future. I may go for lunch next time though as that Butternut Squash Soup was epic and after quizzing Emma about how to make Coyo that is on my list of things to do. It turns out it’s dead easy to make and keeps for 3 weeks in your fridge (who knew?)
My favourite thing we tried has to be the Arrancini, I loved the texture and flavour and most important the tapioca ‘cheese’ I’ve never been a fan of tapioca, but this had been fermented and it worked perfectly inside the warm arrancini. It was all I could do not to steal the entire tray and go hide in a corner with it.
So if you’ve a free morning at the weekend or even in the week, do yourself a favour and go try Emmas fab food, you won’t be disappointed, trust me!
