BBQ Spice Rub

Who doesn’t love a good BBQ? Eating outside in the summer sunshine with tasty food and good company, I love BBQ food especially for the smokey flavour everything takes on.  I think it’s a primal thing that triggers memories of our distant ancestry when everything was cooked on a fire.

When I think BBQ I think ribs and this one was no different.  Now I normally cheat and buy a readymade spice mix to put on my ribs before I cook them, this time though I didn’t have any to hand. So after searching through the web and my spice cupboard I came up with this spice rub.

  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Granulated Garlic
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Sugar

Mix all of the spices together and then in a large freezer bag, I put in the ribs with a drizzle of oil and then the spice mix. Give the bag a good a shake to make sure the ribs are fully coated. You can leave the ribs in the fridge to marinade for as long as you like, but if like me it was a last minute thing just leave them in the bag while your BBQ gets up to temperature. Finally chuck them on the BBQ and feast!
