GBK, McD’s, BK? Who needs them!?

PG's Stilton Burger

Burgers, they are popular the world over! Now don’t get me wrong I like a visit to the nearest McDonalds or Burger King as much as the next person. But, burgers can be more than something you shove into your face on a long road trip or for a hangover lunch.  They can, given a little love be a lot nicer than the convenience fare you find on the side of the road.

The idea for this burger came from watching Nigel and Adam’s Farm this weeks topic… seasonality. Nigel himself used lamb mince and Sheep cheese. I used the traditional beef and some stilton mainly because I’m not a massive fan of sheep or goat cheese and my butcher had no lamb mince.

The concept is the same though, no need for refined lines or Michelin star style swipes of ketchup. This is hearty, home style cooking at its greatest. For my burgers you’re going to need:

  • 1 lb / 500g minced beef
  • ½ a diced red onion
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
  • Salt and pepper
  • Crumbled stilton (stick as much as you like in)
  • 1 large potato for chipping

Now then, this recipe 2 rather large burgers but, if you’re not as big an eater as myself it will easily make 4 or even 8 miniature burgers!  Put your mince into a bowl and add all the other ingredients. Then get stuck in with your hands! Make sure that all of the ingredients are well mixed in together, then shape the mixture into patties.  Now you can either cook them straight away or leave them over night in the fridge to rest.  Finally get your potato, cut it into thick, thin, skin on or skin off 9whatever your preference) chips. And fry them in hot oil, you cannot beat homemade chips with a homemade burger!!
